GRE Preparation Courses

Thank you for taking the time to register for the GRE Preparation course offered through the University of Northern Iowa.

This prep course covers the following sections of the GRE general test:

  • GRE Verbal Reasoning
  • GRE Analytical Writing
  • GRE Quantitative Reasoning

Register for all three or for individual topics.

GRE Verbal Reasoning - Includes interactive practice with strategies for text completion, sentence equivalence and reading comprehension questions, along with multiple answer questions. The focus will be on the most common vocabulary words, explanations of answers and practice tests.

GRE Analytical Writing - Offers intensive practice in interpreting, planning, and developing both the Issue and Argument essay prompts. Learn how to manage your writing time to reduce stress and produce a high-quality essay.

GRE Quantitative Reasoning - Offers intensive review and practice of the mathematics concepts covered on the GRE. Students practice problem solving strategies and learn how to apply the strategies and math content to the quantitative comparison and multiple choice questions.

Summer 2017:
Classes will meet in the ITTC 035 Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.
GRE Analytical Writing - May 15-25
GRE Quantitative Reasoning - May 30-June 15
No class Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. Class session will be made up on Friday, June 2, 2017.
GRE Verbal Reasoning - June 19-29

Fall 2017:
Classes will meet in the ITTC 035 Tuesday and Thursday; 8 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.
GRE Quantitative Reasoning - August 29-October 5
GRE Verbal Reasoning - October 10-November 2
GRE Analytical Writing - November 7-December 7
No class during Thanksgiving Break, November 20-24, 2017

The deadline for signing up and paying for the course is the Friday before the course begins.

Cancellation policy

If your plans change and you must cancel, please submit your request in writing to as soon as possible. Cancellations for individual GRE review sections must be received no later than the first day of each class in order to receive a refund of the registration fee for each section.

Student preparation time outside of the scheduled sessions vary. The Academic Learning Center does not guarantee students will obtain a specific score on any section of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).
